yeah, I always thought Fred Burroughs was just a character who was never cast but they were too stupid/lazy to strike him from the script

This is one of my favorite sequence of riffs in the history of MST3K.

FRED BURROUGHS! HELP ME!

I am also vouching for the information that Fred Burroughs was the fat black guy. Every fat black guy should be named Fred Burroughs as far as I'm concerned, but apparently they are occasionally named things other than Fred Burroughs and I just don't know why.

Fred Burroughs was the big black guy who ran the shelter with that fat guy with gray hair; they just did a really poor job of establishing that. If you remember, the white kid with the bowl cut calls him Uncle Fred a couple of times, and he introduced himself to the main character as "Fred." Maybe you knew all that. I couldn't tell.

@Reviresco Ah, good catch. I remember the name "Fred" being thrown around now, but I didn't connect the dots at the time. When the chief says "... told us how he got you to give him a ride", I took it as an allusion to her hooker past. Well, mystery solved.
