Escenografía: Boris Messerer

________________________________________
[...] Alonso began to create his Carmen before a note of the music was prepared. Two years before he visited Moscow and worked with Plisetskaya he began working out movements with members of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba. Only once Shchedrin saw the rehearsals with Plisetskaya did he commit to writing the music. The scenario was developed by Alonso and departs from the familiar opera plot. The emphasis is on the characters of Carmen, Don José and the toreador rather than the plot. The setting is an abstraction of a bullring with dancers in masks seated on tall stools representing the spectators. The fatal contest within this arena of life is between Carmen and her Fate - in the manifestation of a black bull. Neither is victorious; they die simultaneously because, as Plisetskaya explains, "Carmen and her fate are one and the same." Boris Messerer designed the set. [...]

  • Maya had the fire and spark that Svetlana is lacking. don't get me wrong, I adore Svetlana and she is the most beautiful and perfect Odette. It's just that Maya always became the role she was dancing and she had a special stage presence that is very rare. it's very important to remember that at that time, technique and extensions were not considered as important as they are now and the technique of modern ballerinas did not really exist. we would not have svetlana, without Maya. show respect.

  • I had the joy of seeing Maya dance Dying Swan in San Francisco. dressed all in black with a orchestra cello soloist It was so marvelous that the audience would not stop applauding until she did the whole dance for an encore. Never have I seen such suppleness / fluidity in motion.

  • Maya the rebel. She even manages to dance Carmen and make it look rock'n roll !

  • Very nice.

  • @MissMaRtInA100021 What a dumb comment.

  • @blossom838 but technique is important as the magic and the art

  • @MissMaRtInA100021 i never denied that svetlana zakharova is an amazing dancer. she is indeed but she still has a lot to prove. you should also have in mind that ballet is neither tricks on pointe shoes nor a sport. it is an art so technique doesn't matter as mush as you might think. I think we should simply enjoy its magic.
