Parkville, Mo Flood Part 4. Missouri River Out of Its Banks. 6-26-2011

I walked closer to the Missouri River. I was surprised. The water was high and moving fast. It is a huge body of water and was out of its banks on both sides of the might Missouri. I have stood in this same location many times. Where the waters edge is and about 20 feet out is normally a 8 foot drop to the banks. The river has risen at this spot about 8 feet and is still creeping.

Parkville flooded in the early 90s. The Missouri River climbed north on Main street and reached midway at the top of the hill you see in this video.

I was surprised that there was zero sandbagging efforts going on. Maybe that was the crowd I saw hanging out at the local coffee shop earlier.

What struck me as crazy was this. People are out walking their dogs, and they even have the kids on their bikes riding around like nothing is going to happen?
