  • looks just like british ones, apart from from being the line cards are in racked cabinets.

  • Thats pretty bad, I used to do work in CO's, that place looks like an 80's movie.

  • lol, ive never been in any Exchanges in NZ, but i'd love to have a look through one, i know all the old gear progressively was replaced with NEC gear in the 80's dont know if there are any older exchanges left in NZ anymore. I think its all like this now.

  • Re the fan used to cool the line cards.

    Have you been in a BT exchange lately?

    Some of them have air con in them it gets so hot.

    Also plenty of soldered connections on the MDF - nearly all the line sides in most exchanges are not IDC.

  • I believe telecom NZ will have all this equipment replaced with IP gear by 2020. Will make the existing NEAX gear a good 40 years old when removed from service.
