Is This the Best We Can Do?

Is this the best we can do? Mandating private insurance? Forcing people to buy private insurance policies or pay a penalty, guaranteeing at least $50 billion dollars in new business for the insurance companies?

Is this the best we can do? Government negotiates rates which will drive up insurance costs, but the government won't negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies which will drive up pharmaceutical costs.

Is this the best we can do? Only 3% of Americans will go to a new public plan, while currently 33% of Americans are either uninsured or underinsured?

Is this the best we can do? Eliminating the state single payer option, while forcing most people to have to buy private insurance.

If this is the best we can do, then our best isn't good enough and we have to ask some hard questions about our political system, such as: Health Care or Insurance Care? Government of the people or a government by the corporations?" - One minute speech on the Floor of the House of Representative, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) talking on Oct 29, 2009 about the latest House health care plan. http://representativepress.blogspot.com/2009/10/is-this-best-we-can-do.html

  • It's government by the corporations. The republicans and democrats have sold out. Thats wy we have a two party system. The corporations don't want to have to buy out a third or forth party too. Quit drinking the kool-aid. Follow the money!

  • @Twirly60 "In God We Trust" written on the dollar. Money is God in America. Work for it, die for it. Unfortunately, its becoming as worthless as the paper its printed on.

  • Why do you think Ron Paul is nuts? There are only a few (non Corporate) members of Congress. Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, and Barry Sanders. All are pretty much in agreement on the Fed./banking system/non interventionist policies, fair trade etc..., Those are the critical issues that our government needs to deal with. Yes, I agree w/ a universal system theoretically - but our government balanced a budget 3 out of the last 90 years. You don't have to be a genius to figure out they are incapable

  • I love this guy, i'm upset i can't find the picture i took with him two years ago.

  • Yes this is the best we can do. The US unique among industrialized nations. It has always had a for profit system and the position we are in today where 44,789 people die every year from lack of health insurance is directly due to that system.

For source of mortality rates google search-

Health Insurance and Mortality in US Adults PDF".

  • I think ROn Paul is nuts. sorry

  • I wish you were correct on this as our wealth as represented by our currency is being drained bankster style. (Hint: Inflation. It's a hidden tax according to Dr. Paul and Bernake admitted the same on tape.)

  • besides, forcing an American citizen to purchase a good or service is against the Constitution... it would be tyranny against the law of the land.

  • and what do you do for a living genius?

  • as government grows, liberty shrinks
