Surprise! For the past few months, I have been working on composing a Baroque concerto grosso. It was a wonderful learning process requiring many discussions and reading sessions between myself and various friends from the SFUCO. As I have expanded my writing to winds this time, there were many new fun challenges to tackle and it has been an immensely enjoyable experience. So anyways, enjoy and leave comments as you please.

i. Allegro ma non troppo.
ii. Largo.
iii. Menuetto - Trio - Menuetto inverso

PREFACE. This piece was composed for the Simon Fraser University Chamber Orchestra and I started the project in December 2010. As I had composed my first violin concerto not long ago last summer, I decided to expand my instrumentation to incorporate winds into my next work. Having studied the Brandenburg Concertos of Bach at my own leisure, I was inspired to compose a concerto grosso in a similar style with my own personal touch.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS. I would like to thank George Chung (violin), Rei Miyasaka (violin), Jerry Yon (cello), Grandy Chu (cello), Colin Hume (horn), Fatima Lee (basoon), and Maia Smith (oboe) for dedicating their time to review my writing on request. And once again, I would like to thank the entire Simon Fraser University Chamber Orchestra for inspiring me to take on this project.

  • Where can I get the scores from this?

  • @deunicaten Please PM me with your e-mail and tell me more about your request. I'll send you the score and parts. :)

  • How come no violas or bass?

  • @LlamaLlord21 Because the orchestra that I am writing this for does not have those musicians currently. So I adjusted. :)

  • Congratulations for your perfect imitation of the Baroque style, but where is your personal touch? If I didn't know you are the composer, I would say it is a minor composition by Bach or Haendel.

  • @Maspixxx Haha thanks! When it comes to defining my personal style, I get stuck because I write in many different styles. My musical interests are quite eclectic, ranging from Baroque counterpoint to Russian Romantic harmony, so whenever I compose music I start by first choosing a genre and proceeding from there. But above all, I would say I am a neo-Baroque composer at heart. :) The style interests me most because there is something new to listen for upon each listening.

  • ¿Tienes una pagina web o algo donde poder descargar tus partituras en midi?

  • Great little piece, convincing writing. I find myself secretly wishing there was a crazy violin cadenza at 2:35 ..!

  • BWV 1046?

  • Wonderful, with baroque spirit! :)

  • I am very impressed by your gregarious concerto grosso! It makes me want to dance!

  • @zeryx28 I love the term, neo-Baroque.

  • Very nice work! Bravo!
