  • @JoelvanLennep it is a muselaer, your keen ear was on the money

  • This may be a "harpsichord" in the proper sense, but I find its sound-quality to be much like that of a center-plucking virginal - a so-called "muselaer". I think it may be a copy of the earliest surviving N. European harpsichord, that by Lodewijk Theewes. This is meditative and spacious interpretation, and Byrd's counterpoint admirably rich. Leonhardt at his best - I think this music suits him very well.
