  • A man of great character today and a hockey great.

  • That guy could take the ash off a lit cigarette from 50 yards off -- opposing goalies used to wet themselves at the thought of him. :-) He could put a puck straight through a car door.

Brilliant, brilliant shooter and an really admirable person as well, accomplishing so much in life with such a rocky start.

  • he looked so young just today he looks so old well for a long time first time i saw him 4 years ago and counting : D

  • @crawhip7 Hi, sorry for the Finals if you're a Flyers fan. I was rootin for them against Chicago. Anyways, the water would come from melting snow and ice that would accumalate and seep into the leather pads, thus making the pads in the 1970's much heavier by the 3rd period than they would be in the first. Leather pads would feel damp after playing pickup ice hockey for an hour, let alone playing in the NHL where games take 2-3 hours. Today the material used for pads is all waterproof.

  • @vidlivs

Where did the water come from?

  • @knuckleheadjones You try being an acrobatic butterfly goalie with equipment that weighed up to 12 pounds. The pads today are litteraly featherweight. The pads in the 70's were made with cowhide leather and stuffed with horse hair. Pretty good protection, but know that water could seep through cowhide leather and make the pads weigh even more by the 3rd period. This is why the goalkeepers look much slower in their reflexes back then.

  • Reggie Leach was Classic....

The Super 70's were so Great to Loyal Flyers Fans....

  • Compared to the butterfly goalies of today, stand-up goalies look like they're really not trying very hard. Case in point: .28 seconds of this video.

  • he still is the "Rifle" here as coach of the Manitoulin Islanders .
