I selected it and Modify is not available? I have CS5.

If you want a transparent background, you should start with a layer with a transparent background. By the way, this IS a JPEG image, the most commonly found format. If you want to use the best possible image to work, use PNG or TIF (lossless compression,
and no JPG artifacts)

@withoutREBELLION Save as .png not .jpg

@goldenleafteam I will try that - I'm not sure if that's listed among the options to save on PS but I"ll check. I did fiddle with things in blogger and changed my background colors in the settings, and it leaves a very faint 'shadow' almost that only someone as completely anal as me would be able to detect. LOL Finally, a simple tutorial that doesn't require odd extraneous steps that do the same thing, only with 42 other steps. LOL

@DerangedHousewife Yes, it's not a PS problem but if you haven't already, try saving with "save for web and devices" and choose PNG-24. IF that doesn't work then it's most likely blogger. It must be converting it into a JPG, I would search the internet for other people having the same problem.... Hope it works out for you!

@DerangedHousewife Thank you man i think i managed to guess my way there :D but thank you none the less.

@goldenleafteam I did this and uploaded the image (PNG) to Photobucket. There, the image showed up with no background. When I put it on my blog (gray background) it showed up with a black background around the photo, not transparent. Confused even more now... Maybe it's something to do with blogger's settings and backgrounds and not PS.

@MrHaddify You have to unlock your background image. Drag the padlock symbol to the trash.
Yeah but uh...when you save it, the empty parts of the layer that are checkered turn to white...how can you save it just with rounded edges?

@withoutREBELLION save it as a PNG image. PNGs can show transparency. JPEGs can't.
