To the north and west of Brest in Brittany, at the most westerly tip of France, can be found some of the tallest menhirs (standing stones) still standing in Europe. These giant tapering stones were quarried, sculpted, moved and erected by our Neolithic ancestors 5,000 years ago and after all this time, still stand as testament to our ancestors ingenuity and technical skill. They may have been territorial markers, memorials to tribal leaders, places of ritual or fertility rites; no one knows. I find them deeply impressive.
Great menhirs, but who is that long haired hippy??
