Have you ever wondered what was inside that locomotive rumbling by on the train tracks? You voted yes so we went to Grove City, Pennsylvania, where locomotive engines are manufactured and put together piece by piece. Watch how people and machines work to assemble high powered train engines from start to finish through the lens of our mini helicopter camera. This bird's eye view of GE engineers at work really puts the intricacies of each engine into perspective, so take a moment to appreciate all the moving parts the next time you board a train!

Make sure you check out the rest of the factory flyover series in more behind the scenes footage taken at GE Aviation and GE Healthcare factories. Watch at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY2MuY... and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IrE1h....

It's a Diesel Electric train engine, meaning the diesel engine powers a generator which supplies power to the electric motors at each wheel.

This is more diesel technology being manufactured in a commercial production facility. GE, one of our international manufacturing conglomerates, makes a lot of stuff, doesn't necessarily mean they're being innovative. As a mega-conglomerate, they can also be like Microsoft, and 'eat' smaller companies, including their intellectual property. And, chances are they do a little bit of the old industrial espionage to boot. Independent inventors? Think twice about how you use network computing.
