Sorry about the Pac-Man mouth at the side of the video, it's my iPad stand make do as a camera stand.
This project was created to help me simplify the circuitry for the Tricorder so that I may have enough space for actually useful stuff in the Tricorder.
At this point of writing, 06 May 2011, this circuit suffers from a problem I have yet to understand, it will fail to work after about 21 minutes, I still need to look into the reason as to why this is the case.

I have never considered doing that.
This project is on hold as I am working out my own design for the casing.
I am also considering phasing out this electronic design because I want the LED to flash in a cooler fashion then this.
