National Panasonic NV-3085 Black and white Open Reel VTR

I was given this VTR in unknown condition. I obtained a reel of tape but I don't have a take up reel yet. At first there was no picture most likely because the contacts on the video head were damaged. I have replaced the tips of them with single strand copper wire, which seems to be working well. No other work was required other than a clean up of the mechanical parts to get recording and playback of video. The audio works in playback but I have not connected an audio input for recoding yet. The picture on the monitor is much better than my camera makes it appear.

The tape falling to the floor is a nice touch...I have a SONY color reel vcr, that needs heads :*( I too, have no take-up reel! Put a CD on the spindle with a thread spool over it, and wind the tape on that!!!

Did the tape get wound on the black spindle in front ? You said in the text that you have no take up reel.
