Pseudo-Animation: Vanity

Sequence of still images. My first hand-drawn attempt at animation at art college in 2008 - I found the cells (drawn with OHP pens directly onto sheets of clear plastic) that I'd never scanned in whilst going through my portfolio, and decided to finally see what these were.

I vaguely rememvber that we drew these from a model who would take a certain pose for a minute, then change. We had to draw each pose in just a minute. It then became 30 seconds, and the very last few frames, 10 seconds - but we were told "try and get the essence of the figure".

I didn't find much point in drawing a whole person in 10 seconds, it just looked like a child's drawing of an elephant with a short skirt.

So, I scanned them in and edited them together with Corel Video Studio 12. I wish that I had more time to get to grips with this program. I found the crossfade feature immensely irritating, so in the end opted for an auto pan/zoom instead to make the image sequence seem more dynamic.

Uploading to Youtube as a record of what I've done, even if it's not my best work. It was a starting point for me, and something or other about that day drew me to investigating animation further, and to create some of the other pieces on my account. In that sense, this sequence of images drawn in 1 minute or less each holds personal importance to me, as it and my other experiences at college at the time led me in part to where I am going.
