  • he is very wise and sounds like yoda :)

    It can bring to an excluding logic, in wich there are the good people and ,on the other side, the bad people;

    the bad people are to be defeated by the good people, and the good people are authorised to commit every crime..that is a fairy tale of the mass media(and our reaction should be the indipendent use of our intellectual faculties); people are featured as the characters of a novel....

    without caring that during the war only poor people die..

  • @FenrirLupus (3rd P)

    and now Iran is providing itself with nuclear technology because of the same reasoning:I WANT PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER..

    and how can Americans say that Iran is making a mistake? and what about israel and many other countries?

    How can you say that American weapons are legitimate and the other countries are possessing no legitimate weapons?

  • @FenrirLupus (2nd p)

    Then Europe was destroyed during the so-called World War I;

    History is not merely a book about past happenings; it can remind you those mistakes that you should not make again.

    If you want peace through superior firepower, many other countries might follow your way to "bring peace"; it's not a theory, it's happening now;

    and it won't bring peace

  • @FenrirLupus peace through superior firepower: that is the peace of the tyrant; when the tyrant makes the people fear they will not hurt him; in Latin words it's used to say UBI MAIOR MINOR CESSAT

    Moreover, it would resemble a reasonable theory, but there is a little problem:

    in nineteenth century the same reasonable theory was adopted by Germany and UK; both of them wanted the most powerful fleet in the world, and wanted to be "in a good position" "through superior firepower" as you say;

  • But His Holiness is absolutely correct in my opinion. :)

  • It's unfortunate and unnecessary in my opinon. We can continue nuclear research and leave the bomb stuff out of it; for the most part.

    But science is science, and if you are going to ask a scientist to "not research this or that possibility", well... It rarely works, and that may or may not be a good thing in the end. We need free and unlimited scientifc discovery. Nothing should be out of bounds, because you never know what unforseen benefits may come from your research at any given time.

  • Actually we do continue research into nuclear physics. I have no idea as to the current rates of production, but I'm sure we do still produce "newer", "better" bombs.

    And the old ones don't last forever. They become obsolite as new and improved delivery systems come online: Why use an old Titan-II when you can use a new psuedo-ballistic and supersonic missile, which may require a new and different type of warhead?

    Also, neutron weapons tech I think is still underway.
