Meet Marietta Ramirez, a former slum-dweller in Baseco, Tondo, Manila. She was once statistically among the many faceless poorest of the poor in the Philippines. Now, she is a proud resident of GK Baseco, who has been given a new beginning, a fresh start. She is still poor as far as society's standards go, but she now has a face, a name, restored dignity and a sense of belonging.
Consider these statistics from the Social Weather Station (SWS) as of March 2008:
50% of families in the Philippines consider themselves poor.
Php 10,000 income per month is considered the median poverty threshold
Marietta is part of the "food poor" - those who do not earn enough to afford their minimum food needs.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate your comment kabayan. GK is about walking the walk and not waiting and hoping that someone else should do something nor pointing out the obvious that there is a problem. One needs to take the time to understand the root issues then be part of the solution.

i am proud to be filipino and i am glad that theres a foundation like this that are reaching out to the poor. But i think the biggest problem is population. I mean when s the governemnt going to step n and educate everybody about safe sex. Control...I am catholic myself and i know its a big deal.
