Interesting film clips, but this project is a sorry example of what passes for learning in schools of education in the United States today. The Gary Schools were remarkably successful in their heyday (1909-1940) until the original "Work-Study-Play" system was abandoned in the 1940s. It was a superior theoretical model for its time that achieved considerable success with a school population in which 80% of the students were immigrants or the children of immigrants.

Man this video is nuts. It's all right there, how is this video putting schools in a positive light? Did you see the footage you presented? Did you hear the quotes? These men were behaviourist utopian whackos. All of them, Gary's Schools were just as bad as Cubberly's. It was all on the same basis. They thought they were doing the right thing but they were wrong and disguisting all the same. Compulsory schooling is one of the greatest injustices in America today.

@JayPhilosopher It doesn't matter whether conservatives or liberals are in charge. The fact is that all public schools-all schools period are systems of indoctrination and in the end worthless. The main tenets: learning obediance to authority and fealty to the state are still in practice and show no signs of going away. Without those core components, schooling has no meaning or purpose to the establishment.

Jesus is this video scary. Teachers have to be the first to be introctrinated if they are going to brainwash kids. Mass education exists to get kids away from industry long enough for them to be taught how to be FFWA-Future Factory Workers of America and clerks and other employees. These morons in the video don't appear to understand the corrupting influence of mass education.

This was a good group project.
It seems that whenever progressive education has been tried, the nation has prospered and moved ahead, and whenever and whenever the conservatives have had power and pushed a "back to the 3 R's Agenda," things have gone backwards. Unfortunately, the conservatives have had power for the last 30 years and have ruined nearly a whole generation. It is time to fight for progressive education in schools again instead of the vicious "no child left behind" approach.
