Hey.. You turned me on to Percy.. Love the voice and LOVE this version of You Don't Exist No More.. But.. I went out and got Poet of the Blues and that version (1954?) of Don't Exist.. isn't the same. This one, your (1964?)Youtube version.. , the simplicity of the arrangement .. its skeletal, raw. The addition of the newer electric piano,, everything about it better captures the feeling of the lyric. It's great and I HAVE to get a copy !

The photo of Percy Mayfield that appears at around 1:11. What happened to his forehead? Car accident? Just curious.

@yowzephyr Yes,Percy was in a car accident early in his career (about1952) and it left his face disfigured.

I love Percy's stuff. To me it sounds like that ol' "brown liquor" sippin' music where you just wanna mellow out and hear a little blues. As far as the pic goes,It's two things I enjoy-good music and beautiful vixens!!

Ive always loved the 1964 version of "Rivers Invitation". It wasn't played much on radio E. Rodney or Pervis might pop it on the turntable once in a while but it always deserved more airtime. Great post.

My pops had the original 45 and he'd make tapes of his favorite blues records and it would always pop up in the mix somewhere. WVON played a lot of soul music that the mainstream stations wouldn't touch back then, especially local artists. My dad also listened to Pervis Spann "The Blues Man",but by then he wasn't on WVON but another small FM station (can't remember the call letters) in Elmwood Park. Thanx and I'm glasd you liked the vid and tune.
