Model is scratch built from 3-side view in Russian magazine. Electric powered with retractable gear (32 wheels) flaps, lights. Buran is not powered and has extendable gear for landing. Flown in Europe and mostly in Switzerland.

  • Exellent job! What construction did you use for the Buran, foam, balsa/plywood, or something else?

I am building a Buran in 1/48 scale, using balsa and lite ply. No landing gear, though - I intend to land in the grass.

  • Hi, the Buran is mostly made of a special fine styrofoam. Inside the fuselage the stability is made with a balsatube-construction. The tubes are covered with kevlar. Main wingspar is also a balsatube. Landing on grass is not a problem as the speed before touchdown is very low.

  • You are right, the shuttle is not powered, it is stabilized with two gyros (ail and elev) and has an extendable gear to be lowered at short final. The glide angle is very bad. The weight is 1.5kg=3 pounds only. Wingspan 96 cm.

  • I want this toy :D

  • If flies better than that Russian supply craft to the space station.

  • amazing, fantastico, quiero uno buaaaaa, an225 con el buran

  • splendid !!

  • Thanks for the nice words. Next flight and video will be done in lower light but without Buran as there are no lights installed.

  • Great job building and flying both aircraft, these surpass being called mere RC planes they are aircraft in the truest sense of the word. I have surprised more than a few of my fellow Americans when I say I love Russian aircraft and these have the look that is perfect, down to the anticollision and navigation lights. I would like to see the 225 flying in lower light levels to really show off those lights. A great job all around.

  • @bartybum, thanks for the good tip. It realy looks more realistic this way. buehr

  • Play it in slo-mo and it'd look absolutely real
