In this video, I discuss something which has bugged me - people asking me why we shouldn't trust our feelings. Really? Remember how we used to feel about what went around what in the universe?

  • You've actually arguments with intellectual religious people (I'm assuming), and you're imposing a probing question that nobody can give a valid answer to. Or, the people try to answer create a loophole to fill that void. Has anybody ever given you a DECENT answer to that question? You know, one that makes sense, and isn't the "well it doesn't make sense to you because you don't believe in it" kind? Seems a little redundant, because you would have mentioned it in the video if so, lol.

The usual response is "BUT I HAS BIBLE LOLOLOL"

  • To sum it up, It's wishful thinking.

  • @atticana Thanks for letting shimmer through a glimps of what can count as a personal positive, yet still plausible, message. If I'm trying real hard, I think you say that my "kind" (evil honest unbeliever) will triumph after fallacious bases for morality have ultimately crumbled down by the constructs of reason and logic. Imo, you value your feelings improperly, in a way it reminds me of "addiction".

  • but following my feelings feels so good... ...

  • Apologists drive me insane. So maybe I really, really feel like there's a million dollars buried inside my skull. Does that mean it's there...? Let me grab an ax and check. ...Anyway, at least that example is falsifiable! Whereas there's no way to demonstrate anything about God! The burden of proof rests on those who claim a thing exists.

  • @SolRosenberg84 I don't think you should stop. It's kinda a cute opening. ^^

  • I've posed this exact same point/challenge to all the believers I debate whenever they try and dismiss me by saying, "Well, you can't see the truth because you don't give any consideration to feelings and it all has to be laid out for you logically."

  • @atticana I agree that intuition is often right, in judging other people and everyday-life situations, and that's also supported by various empiric studies. I appreciate your "gut feelings" when you debate antisemitic BNP supporters, and many others - atheists or not - surely would do likewise.

But SolRosenberg84 mainly refers to "gut feelings" concerning questions about the universe, origin of things etc. - and in these "non-intuitive" topics I also prefer science over imagination ;-)

  • SolRosenberg84's casual dismissal of human feelings provides yet further evidence of how atheism devalues humanity. Our feelings, especially our gut instincts, are the most important weapon that we have against evil people. SolRosenberg84's devaluation of feelings ultimately destroys all morality and would thus pave the way for the triumph of evil.

  • Hi Sol. Interesting and valid point. As a Chrstian who has watched alot of atheist videos, and interacted with atheists-I am still a Christian-but I have a touch of agnosticism. Also, the knife cuts both ways. Many athiests seem fo be baseing thier understanding of "god' on thier feelings. IMO they should belive in a benevalent God-who will make everythihng right.--it will make them happier.Maybe there is a God who reveals himself to the individual in a private way.to those who seek Him.

  • @RaptorWizard Let's talk again in Jan 2013 and we'll celebrate our rescue ;-)

I read people saying that in 2012 earth, sun and the centre of the Milky way would be aligned and that would cause a catastrophy. Astronomically the most southerly point (the winter solstice) of the sun's apparent path (the zodiac) just crosses the plane of our Galaxy (the Milky way) in 2012, and that's really nothing to be afraid of. The situation in 2011 or 2013 would only be minimally different.
