Sri Lanka has achieved an economic growth of 2.1 percent in the 2nd Quarter of this year. It has risen from 1.4 percent in the 1st Quarter.
The achievement is mainly attributed to the progress in the development projects undertaken by the Government in the agricultural sector. These details were revealed by Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics Suranjana Vidyaratne. Global economic recession is easing on other countries as well. She noted that the affected sectors in the island related to international trade indicate signs of a pick up. The East has made a major contribution to agricultural production. The apparel industry is also showing signs of improvement. She said the situation is same in the tea industry.
