If the breadth of your tomato knowledge is limited to the sturdy beefsteak tomato, or that new-fangled supermarket upstart, the grape tomato, you could use a few lessons at Rutgers University's Snyder Research and Extension Farm. New Jersey's famous fruit is given the star treatment at the annual Great Tomato Tasting at the 390-acre research farm in Pittstown, Hunterdon County. More than 1200 people waited in longs lines to taste the tomatoes.
"ugly" heirlooms? "taste great - to some people?" - Obviously a commercial hybrid grower talking! Hah!
