We asked members of Historic Royal Palaces staff which of Henry VIII's wives as the best. Here, Susie Lipscomb, Research Curator at Historic Royal Palaces, argues that with Kateryn Parr, Henry saved the best until last: the first woman in Britain to publish a book of prose and roel model to Elizabeth I - whose passionate life story reads like a work of romantic fiction.
Next year Hampton Court Palace will be home to rarely seen 16th-century portraits of each of the women in Henry VIII's life mother, sisters daughters and wives - and will be joined by evocative objects intimately connected to their fate.

Anne Boleyn and Katheryn Parr are tied as my fave wives. It's a shame Kateryn Parr is not better remembered. She and Anne really sped up the Reformation, and Catherine,as this video showed, certainly influenced Elizabeth in her strength, ruling England in Henry's absence. I hear many people on here saying Aragon and Boleyn were ahead of their time, but I think the wife that was ahead of her time was Parr!
