so all you really do is connect wire from the xkey to your xbox360 with the fireware and thats it you dont need to flash your xbox?

You need to the the original firmware for this right, I had cfw 1.6 and did the 13599 system update and had the fw rewrite, will that work with this?

Yes, it will still work. The modified firmware still has your keys.
