  • oh and great job being conquistadores, do you guys know what happened to latin america because of conquistadoers. villages pillaged, women raped, men murdered, robbery of fortunes...but if you guys want to relate to that go for it. i like how most orgs have very similar hand signs, with a finger or two, real cute. try being original. and first latino frat? ever heard of sigma iota? just a question.

  • once a phiota, semper a phiota. the undergrad may have died out, but alumni chapters never stopped. thats why we were able to come back. we just celebrated our 80th anniversary...let me know when yall celebrate that...we'll be past our centennial. just saying.

  • Finally the constant discrimination towards men of color would have prevented Latinos from entering college. Phi Iota was established by Latino men as a Greek Fraternity that would have catered to Latinos, but without a constant flux of Latinos entering college would have stopped operating. I would like to say though that LTPHI is the first Latino Fraternity officially recognized, but that you were not the first Fraternity to be established by Latinos. However, LTPHI did start up the trend.

  • @Vcarpio3 The large gap between 1931 and its reemergence is due to the depression being in full swing at the time, multiple wars following that depression and finally having the civil right movement occur in order to allow the establishment of a Greek organization with the intention to serve Latino men in college. The depression made it impossible to enter the United States, the wars kept young Latino men from entering into secondary education.

  • Phi Iota Alpha can claim they are the first but they are going to have trouble explaining why there was such a large gap in time until they reemerged again and started expanding after Lambda Theta Phi. Either way Lambda Theta Phi certainly did not disappear after its inception unlike the Phiotas.

Call it slander and claim 1931 . I'll call you a hypocrite.

  • So it could be that a club was created in 1931 with an intention of uniting the Latino students but Phi Iota Alpha claimed to be a Latino Greek organization after Lambda Theta Phi came out. All I am saying is that Phiotas have some really shaky history proving that their intentions were to be a Greek organization (as in a fraternity). Lambda Theta Phi's main intention was to create a brotherhood for Latino men.

  • Also I have trouble understanding how Phi Iota Alpha being that they were established in 1931 does not have many chapters compared to other Latino Greek Fraternity. Phiotas have at most 70 chapters while LULs have 75 (remember they were founded in 1982) and Lambda Theta Phi has over a hundred? Ever heard of Phi Beta Kappa? This was the first academic organization to institute Greek Letters but they are not considered a Greek fraternity or sorority but an honor society.

  • I mean just saying. Phi Iota Alpha has some interesting story to explain their reemergence after Lambda Theta Phi. All I have to say is after 1975 there was a mass expansion of Latino Greek Organizations. In 1979 there was Lambda Sigma Upsilon and 1982 Lambda Upsilon Lambda. Notice similarities within the letters (or at least one in specific?) The Lambda. Again 1985 Lambda Alpha Upsilon came and so on and so forth.

  • 3 orgs came together with the idea of Pan Americanism, became a frat, ceased to exist, then re-established themselves. Latino Migration to the US came after WW2, how many Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Salvadoreans, and Colombians lived in the US in 1931? Lambda Theta Phi was founded as a Latin Fraternity with 14 founding fathers to claim it. The beginning of the Latino Greek Movement.

  • Lambda Theta Phi is the First Nationally recognized Latin Fraternity. If ya'll dont know, ya'll should find out...
