Visit my website at http://www.junglejoel.com - Pu prepares some wild bamboo shoots while talking with Mama. The shoots are gathered by the locals from the nearby mountains, just outside of Khon Kaen, Thailand. They are very fibrous, and must by cut into thin flakes, as they will be added raw into a soup base. You can se Pu's "whittling" technique near the end of the video. It certainly helps to have long nails when peeling them, as well! Please rate and comment, thanks!

  • I've never heard of any of them being poisonous, just really fiberous -so you have to cut them very thin and boil them a long time. You definitely need to experiment with them to see what works for you.

  • @joelp63 Why do it has to be boil for a long time??

  • @olblacks -they are very fibrous, but as long as you use young shoots and cut them thin, like in the video -everything should be fine. She just put the thin bamboo shavings in her soup and boiled them with everything else, and it tasted great!

  • I have alot of bamboo growing in my yard and I love to eat bamboo shoots too. I live in Florida, I was wondering if I can eat this bamboo that grows here so I could save money from going to the store. Is it safe? I watched videos on how to harvest, I just don't know if all Bamboo is ok to eat. Thank you!
