If they had a better idea of security, then the footprint of the operating system would be a lot smaller than its predecessor(s) (even Server Core is bigger than Server 2003). A cheap firewall works better with an older Windows Server than the new one without a firewall. Virtualization isn't democratized at all, it's monopolized by Microsoft. VMWare is much better.
