Keith performing this deep cut from "Don't Close Your Eyes" (which at the time he performed this was slated for possible release as the "4th single") on what was to be his final appearance on "Nashville Now" in late March 1989. He co-wrote this song with his first wife Kathi in mind... "The desperate look in her green eyes/When she said goodbye in the rain/It tears me to pieces to have to recall/How I caused her all of that pain." That kind of emotion just can't be made up, that's where the rubber meets the road.

  • The piano player is great!!! That is how a musician should play....Complimentary to Keith's impeccable performance.

  • That's Joey Schmidt, the pride of Napoleon, North Dakota. Keith has had some great backing musicians, some better than others, in terms of musicianship. But some with questionable character, unfortunately.

  • @MAMsMom97 .i think it`s a testament to how great his band was and still is to this day b/c his drummer bruce rutherford is alan jackson`s longtime drummer and lead guitarist lou toomey is brooks & dunn`s lead guitarist now,i think his bass player mike chamberlain is Glorianna`s bus driver now,i don`t know where carson and joey schmidt ended up.

  • @lsufanjoe Carson is Alan Jackson's music director. Not sure about Joey, either. Does anyone out there know?

  • @MAMsMom97 Can you elaborate on this statement? I am very interested in Keith's journey through life and music. We are all influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and Keith was no exception. Not much is known, or written/spoken about the people close to Keith, other than Lorrie. Has anyone written a biography? Thanks

  • @RedRoo13 Which statement are you referring to? Darn YouTube, they had to go and change the format of the comments on videos. Many times the replies aren't attached to the comments they're supposed to be attached to. No one has written a biography yet. Have you watched the "Whitley Family Reminisces" series I posted yet? That's a good source of info on Keith's early life.
