@jewinthecity: One always has to wonder about the reasons for these rules. I am inclined to the view that they are fundamentally symbolic in nature. The "swarming things" of the sea are taken as a symbol of the underworld. Leniathan & all are taken to be associated w/ such things, but that is only my speculation. I always wonder about reasons are given for such things.

@VictorLepanto this is a misconception that kosher fish is about avoiding bottom feeders. we eat fish with fins and scales b/c that's what the Torah specifies to do.

@STONEWALLNOGOAL34: Aren't carp kosher? They are bottom feeders everybit as much as catfish. But carpt are kosher (atleast they have scales) while catfish are skin fish & unkosher.

could of been more specific. I know what kosher food is, but not many other people know what it is

Great quality video, and very entertaining, but I'm not sure you answered the original question, which I thought was asking why Jews still don't eat pork and shellfish when they are now 'safe' to eat and not 'healthy' to eat. I've always assumed the original rules about not eating shellfish or pork were due to the very sensible fact that these foodstuffs could easily cause food poisoning (especially in hot climates), but due to modern food production practices, these dangers no longer exist.

@peterskuse I tried to answer it a couple times, first when i explained how many 100% kosher foods a ridiculously unhealthy and next when i explained that kosher has nothing to do with health or being blessed by a rabbi, but only has to do with following God's commandments

what happens if you accidentally eat non-kosher food? do you have to pray after that? what if something is for example bacon-flavoured, with chemically made flavour? can you eat that?
WednesdayMayhem 1 year ago
@WednesdayMayhem if you do something by accident you just try to avoid getting into the circumstance again. in terms of chemical "bacon flavor," something can be completely kosher if the ingredients are completely kosher and the food has been supervised even if it has a non-kosher taste
