Colma - The City of the Silent

Colma is a small incorporated town in the San Francisco Bay Area. The town was founded as a necropolis in 1924.

With much of Colma's land dedicated to cemetaries (17 for the interment of humans and one for pets), the dead population outnumber the living by thousands to one. This has led to it being called "the city of the silent", and also has given rise to a humorous motto among some residents: "It's good to be alive in Colma". Because San Francisco has been referred to as "the city that waits to die" due to its seismic activity, Colma is also known as "the city that waits for the city that waits to die - to die".
