The Laying of the Fondant

I've got some tips for you. ^^ First of all, your fondant will not crack it you've rolled it out to 1/4 inches thickness. Your buttercream looked sloppy so that is a problem. You need to refrigerate first, and then lightly run your fingers over the edge to take off any sharpness. And do not lift the fondant like that. You need to place both hands underneath it or lightly roll it onto a roller and place it on the cake.

Smooth with the palm of your hands, and move quicker. Preferably, you should use a Wilton Fondant Smoother, but hands are fine (although they heat up the fondant and distort it). Also, cut off excess fondant quickly.

I just bought some from Walmart for about 4 bucks and covered an 8 inch cake.
I bought mine from the cake-decorating section of wal-mart, but any arts&crafts/baking supplies store should carry it, such as michael's
