of the full recording of South pacific Jose carreras made with Kiri Te kanawa. This is from an old vcr tape so the video is a little fuzzy.

  • I watched a BBC film of this recording being made. When he'd finished singing, Carreras said, "Please use this take. I'll sing it again if you want, but I'll never sing it better than that."

I agree his may not be the best voice for this song but those last few notes were superb.

  • Me encanta como José Carreras canta este tema..

  • @benluxonfan Yah, I guess he's ok here. I still prefer Pinza--like the basso baritone sound--sounds more manly in DeBeque's role. Carreras does a heck of alot better here than that debacle 'West Side STory--he was horribly miscast there. Here his European accent/opera trained voice works much better with the French DeBeque--sure glad he didn't sing the American Ensign Cable part!! Proper casting--so important to the success of musicals, plays, movies, records.

  • Thanks for posting this video--it is perfect.

  • @benluxonfan I don't know--I'm of mixed mind regarding Carreras doing this--he certainly has the chops--but his voice is too, well, Spanish--notice the r's dont come off elegantly as they did with Pinza--A Italian can pull of the French role, but a Spanish--no I don't think so.

  • just Beautiful xo

  • God, that was awesome.

  • Jose, its not working--you just don't have the right voice for this role--needs something more robust. also your from Spain--not right accent. Granada? Yes, ok.

  • The 1st song I ever heard live sung by Yvonne Hearn - don't know her stage name - at her own grand piano in Platt. Of course it was magical & I have loved listening to singers ever since. Can anyone produce a video of Yvonne?

  • Only Carreras as a tenor could sing, this beautiful, this song compsed for a basso. Bravo Jose!
