A walk through of the first earthship being build in the state of Florida USA with General Contractor Bryan Roberts with Eco-Tech Construction.

The 3,400 sq.ft home features 4 custom made domes, one to be placed in each corner. Inside a 16 X 38 ft greenhouse in the center of the home will be build over the constructed wetlands used for water filtration & food production. Outside the home Bryan explains the waste water treatment system.

Many of the off grid principels applied in this project have been further developed into a mass production cost effective building method soon to be announced.

  • Is there an updated video of this structure? I would love to see what it looks like now.

  • @cmchapman75 the build has progressed a bit since this video - you can check the 2 July 2010 update on our channel. Since then the owner / our client has had health issues and the build has been on hold. We have been building up our development company with modernized versions of this building technique and are in the process of raising capital to purchase the property through an open collaborative business structure.

  • enjoyed the video. what ties the tires together when they are stacked? are bottoms inserted? also, i'm in north florida and drainage is a consideration and moisture bariers due to our high rainfall. french drain trench? would love to visit this site! open to that? thanks.

  • @P38SpaceModulator absolutely open to that; we have workshops & tours out there all the time. The guy in the video is my partner Bryan the GC - the guy to talk construction with. Connect with us on Facebook at earthship.florida and thecampustv to schedule a visit; also check out the more recent videos on this channel on the project - we are launching a business collaborative on the site,

  • and music is WAY too loud for those with sub woofers.

about jumped out of my chair at the end as I turned it up to listen to him, then the music blasted! lol

  • @WizzleThump that 420 will get ya every time!

  • @F0RD0Z There were several aspects of this build that were a demonstration to regulators; we had to obtain a couple of "innovative use" permits for the project. The benefit is that it gives the inspectors, building officials, and engineers a chance to see the methodology up close. We had the inspector comment at one point "wow this thing is a bomb shelter". The idea is to demonstrate just how over-built this in the hopes that something a bit more reasonable can occur in the future.

  • @brob1969

OK, i guess some compromise have to be done, i understand that. but what if florida requires from now that evry earthship has to built on a concrete base?i don t know if soeone will ever deonstrate to the burocrates that it can be built without, but E.S florida demonstrated, that it can be built WITH. why would florida state change his mind?

  • @F0RD0Z This Earthship is being constructed in Florida, a state with some of the most stringent building codes in the US. In order to obtain permits several concessions were made to satisfy the building department to make such an unusual structure fit into their "box". The added concrete and reinforcement was a result of working to get an Earthship approved in Florida; hopefully in the future it can be demonstrated that the added concrete is not required.

  • OK i gonna be the one who cmplains about it:

way to much useless concrete used in this earthship for the ground, for the walls,

i think the promoter tried to push tthe fees up and his commission by the same way.
