He didn't really answer the guy's question....
-
"It is a straw man argument by claiming that religion states this and then he tears it down"
- incorrect, he is pointing to an element of one of the most popular religions that most people in our current time would consider immoral and using it as a basis for contesting absolute morality.
No strawman fallacy is committed
"The Old Testament includes some horrible atrocities"
- where do you think the 10 commandments come from?
-
@types10000 When he talks about a religious absolute morality that includes stoning people to death, etc. I dont recall seeing that in the 10 commandments. It is a straw man argument by claiming that religion states this and then he tears it down. The Old Testament includes some horrible atrocities, but it is preChirst. In other words, these people were not yet "saved" so killing, at this time, wasnt necessarily wrong if it was God's will.

"So you believe that there is no absolute truth?"
- absolute truth definitely exists eg. the statement 'there is currently life on mars' is either factual correct or factually incorrect.
- however there is no evidence that morality is an absolute.
-
"he shouldnt want an absolute morality. its scary and tough to abide by sometimes"
- what kind of idiot are you? there is no functional difference between relative and absolute morality, they both competing explanations for the morality we observe.
" he needs to learn the opposite view before attempting to crticize it."
- no, you need to stop making bullshit assertions about Dawkins and actually provide some evidence for your claims.
-
" build up these straw men arguments against religion "
- where does he do this, all i can see is him following the assertions of the religion to their logical conclusions in response to the question.
"he doesnt make any arguments that actually profess what christianity claims"
- where does he attribute something to Christianity that it does not profess?
-
@six2five3 And yet he is invited to these debates and you are not. Why don't they invite you to debate him? Seeing as you probably have what it takes to win one for the "go(o)d" guys.
Only a sith thinks in absolutes.

I am no expert in this field, but I'd assume a consensus between people arose to ensure the survival of our species. Like Dawkins answers in this video he wants a morality that i thought out, reasoned, argued and discussed. I think that is the way to go, not to have some law of morality that is made to serve a priesthood.
