Seven of the 16 NRL clubs have a new head coach in 2012 which significantly dilutes past statistics that are often influential in forecasting.
To add to the confusion, all clubs have endured huge player movements and have made changes to key support staff. We have analysed every aspect of each club and formulated an educated rating based on part statistics, the coach, the player list and the chemistry which goes to having a winning team.
Some things change slowly and we see many clubs as poorly managed and continue to make their supporters suffer by maintaining a poor coach and/or inept player recruitment. You can examine each club and normally signal the good coaches not so much by the players they have signed, but the players they have not resigned. Coaches and recruitment managers are similar to punters as they have a budget to work with and managing their budget (or money) is the key to their success.
Players are not always let go because they cannot contribute, but often because they are not rated good value compared to their price that will influence the cap (or budget). The Warriors have a big advantage because players are prepared to accept a lower fee to play at home and so they will always have excellent depth. Players will also play for less to be under coaches Bennett and Bellamy.
Teams with new coaches in 2012 include Bulldogs (Hasler), Sea Eagles (Toovey), Warriors (McClennan), Knights (Bennett), Panthers (Cleary), Dragons (Price) and the Rabbitohs (Maguire). We see the big improvements to be with the Bulldogs, the Knights and the Rabbitohs. We have heard excellent reports about Toovey and Price and expect them to both do well in their debuts while McClennan and Cleary are like for like in terms of ratings.
