Following the Invasive Nutria in the Northwest

Learn about the dangers of the non-native, invasive nutria in the Northwest, while following Pangolin Pictures in their efforts to film the creature for a three-part special for National Geographic titled, Animal Invasions. Oregon is one of 15 states to have stable or increasing nutria populations, who are native to South America and were introduced to the U.S. as early as 1899 for fur farming. This movie talks to Paul Heimowitz, USFWS' Pacific Region Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator; Trevor Sheffles, a Portland State University PhD student researching nutria; and Peter Schmidt, wildlife biologist at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, surrounding the current and potential harm nutria cause.
