The design and build of a hydroponic deep water culture (DWC) system for growing vegetables indoors under flourescent lights. Deep Water Culture hydroponic systems are very easy to build and maintain and involve a short list of parts. They are exceptional at indoor growing of leafy plants. This deep water culture hydroponic system is very inexpensive to build and easy to operate for beginners. This is a new addition to our indoor growing capabilities. http://frugalhydroponics.blogspot.com/

  • Thanks folks. It is working very well for a continuous supply of greens. Very simple to setup, use and maintain.

  • Great video! Thanks for all the tips on how to build a simple, inexpensive and well-functioning DWC system. I also would like to thank you for giving me an idea about the silica stones. I was thinking of an alternative growing medium for hydroton which should be as absorbent and porous as possible, good thing I saw your video. :)

  • @citigarden You are quite welcome. I will get another video up once I begin transplanting into the deep water culture systems. The lettuce and basil in the ebb and flow system are still producing heavily on the last nutrient change of 20 November. This is amazing! On the silica rocks....at roughly the same price as hydroton, it was a "no-brainer". The big bag should last me forever. Best of success to you!!

  • This maybe a dumb question but do you keep the pump on constantly and do the air stones ever wear out?

  • of growing fresh greens in my basement lol

  • at any point in the growing process does the water need changed, and if so how is that done?

  • I noticed you had two holes drilled for tubes when you mentioned the air stone part, do you need two air stones and two tubes for each tub?

  • Just wondering where to purchase the Durabox and the silica rocks.

  • Do you run the air around the clock or is the compressor on a timer? Thanks!

  • theres no need to use rediculous amounts of water when the plants are small. 10-20 litres is plenty when the plants are at early stage. ITs only when the plants get big they drink loads.

  • Your EB and flow is is closer to your light then your DWC. Distance is even more important then wattage, so of course its producing more. Scam

  • You should use better plastics. Those are not the right grade plastics and will leech chemicals into the water. It is IMPORTANT to use the proper hardware if you are going to attempt a DIY. Also, if your growing lettuce or something similar, its ok to use one tub like shown, but it most cases this is NOT a good idea. One plant gets sick, they all get sick. The roots fight and tangle.

    Peace!
