This is a video of me teaching my son to read. He is 3 years and one month old in this video. One day I was watching one of those "Your baby can read" infomercials and I decided to give it a try without buying all of the fancy crap they were selling on TV. I cut up some pieces of paper and wrote on them with a red marker. My son caught on to 6 words EXTREMELY fast . After going through them a couple of time I decided to quit until later to see if he remembered and he did. Me and my wife taught him a few more words before he went to sleep and we went through them when he woke up and he got them all right. I was pretty stunned. I made this video to show how fast he can learn new words. In this video he only does two new words football and couch but I actually went a lot slower to show how its done. I dont know if all 3 year olds will learn this fast but I think with a little work you will be amazed. After they learn new words, try to make it more difficult by adding words that are almost the same like cat and car. This will make sure that they focus on the letters. Also, right after you introduce a new word, you go over it a few times and make sure they look at it good and then you give them a old word and the new word and then another old word and then the new word again then go through about 5 or 6 old words and mix the new word in there again. If they remember it, then I am pretty satisfied that he has learned it.
I just started this yesterday and already I am pretty amazed at how fast he learns new words and how well he remembers them too. One other thing I tried is I open up Microsoft Word and I put the font on 74 and I type a word and see if he can get it. You dont want them to just get used to your handwriting on the flash cards and memorize the words that way. At first, he had a little more trouble recognizing them on the computer but eventually I would show him the flash card beside the computer screen and say "Dont they look alike?" The only thing that will throw them off is maybe the "a" looks different than if you write it with a "o" with a line on the side, and "g" looks a little different than you handwriting if it doesnt have a "tail" on it but instead it has that little funny circular bottom part. Eventually they will get it though. So far, it has only been one day with him and he is getting a lot.
So far, from what I can tell, the length of the word doesnt matter either. Football is 8 letters and it is just as easy as Dog to him. What seems to be the harder part is when words are similar. He confused Cat and Car until I showed him to focus on the r and the t, and a few time he confused apple and table. I plan on making a few more videos in the future but I made this one now because I was amazed at how much he learned in a day. It should be even easier from here. Also, I think he could have done this MONTHS ago when he was 2 or even a little bit when he was 1. I dont know why I waited this long to try it but I REALLY dont know why people wait til kids are 6 or 7 to teach them to read! If you have kids, you should give this a try even if you think they may be too young. You will be surprised.

You are so lucky.you must be so happy to have a dad like that. I am so so shocked when i saw you say the easiest word but hard for little kids. My cousin dose not even know that word is football he can't even say a word. But when he comes back i will teach him. that is a really good idea. he is 2 and a half so he is nearly 3 so he would learn. because we all ant our kids or brothers or sister or anyone you know to be clever. so i want my cousin to be clever like him. Good job well done.

@KellysCritterCare You can start doing this by playing giggle belly's youtube videos like Wheels on the bus go round and round... make a playlist and leave him unattended. Put the volume on 60 percent so he only listen what is being played. Do not give him any task when the videos are played. If he diverts his attention try to intercept his other work and ask him to see what the characters are doing in the videos. Like bus is moving, frog is jumping, sheep is saying ba ba about 100 things

@KellysCritterCare This will last for about 4-6 days, in a week or before he will listen to you and follow your instructions. When doing so, you can introduce the tricks that I have revealed in the tips in order to make him busy towards the tasks that you give him. This way he will learn how concentrate, follow your instructions, take a task and complete it. This is what going to take you couple of weeks in start. You will get frustrated with the progress in start but actually it works.

@KellysCritterCare despite those 10 tips, you will have to endure him and have to spend lot of your time to make him concentrate on what you are saying. It does not matter if he is interested in what you are telling him. Your emphasis should be on having him listen to you and ask him to repeat what you have said. If the runs away from you then pick him in your hands tighten him, ask him to say what you want him and then you will let him go. Do not give any other reward other than letting him go

@KellysCritterCare
7. When you see them following your instructions... try to hug them and say this: i love you my son or take his name.
8. Buy some blocks, and ask them to build anything they want. Let them do what they want.
9. ask them to play around computer, recognize letters on keyboard and type their name. they will feel better when you have them type their name and they see it.
10. When you see progress, try to increase the amount of time to spend with them as well as the tasks

@KellysCritterCare continued from my last reply...
5. print the sketches on the a4 size paper. and ask them to fill he with colors. 3+ like coloring a lot. And the learn Apple real quick so put letters A and small a in the the middle of Apple sketch print it on a4 paper and ask them to fill it with red color in the middle, leaf in green.
6. Once the finish, no matter how bad it is... give them 1 star upto 5 by telling why you are giving them.
.. continues.

@KellysCritterCare do this:
1. buy flash cards book having 10-15 pictures with their name, like cat, dog, bus.. try to choose the cards having pictures with 3-5 letter names.
2. Write a to z or about 15 alphabets on the wall where you and your kids spend about 12+ hours together.
3. Search youtube, and try to make a playlist of ABC rhyms, learning videos, phonics and some little funny giggle bellies collection.
4. buy a printer, and google sketches of the pictures that you have used in 1 and 2
