The problem with patents is that it's stupidly worthless and is just a political and money fight. Software, codes, and even hardware designs can be re-imagined and coded from the ground up, or re-organized and built different (physical stuff) that can preform similar functions but is just different enough to get away with it and that stuff happens all the time.
Though the patents on tech like 'Multi-touch', disc drives, zoom features is fucking petty at it's best.

Owning a patent will stop others from stealing all your stuff and selling it unfairly. I understand why apple is pissed. They probably invested a lot into making that technology, so if someone else stole it for free, I could understand why they would be pissed.
Lets say I took safari's code, changed the name and icon, and gave it away, I would understand why apple would sue me.

Anything that stops/slows the flow of information and/or the spread of knowledge should be banned.

patents are preventing many technologies being implemented. just because u patented it it belongs to u. no matter if some1 has already done it b4 and thought it b4 u. or if some1 thinks of the same thing later himself. they should put heavier restrictions what all can be patented and what not, like that zoom thing they talk about in the end it's somethin that shouldn't be able to patent because it's such a small thing, which could easily be thought up by any1 else too
