@tomfroekjaer Many years ago my voice teacher taught me that one of the hardest parts of learning to sing was to stop listening to what you think is the sound of your voice. Instead, focus on the sound of the music itself and the feeling of the words from the heart. When a student was listening to their own voice, he said "you are giving yourself a voice lesson, which is only listening to your own ego." Caruso truly understood this, which is why he was so loved. Again, thank you Tom.

@mozartibnkhajjam .. and this is also true for Rosa Ponselle....
I think one of the amazing things about Caruso's singing was that he literally got his ego out of the way so that only the purest essence of artistic divinity poured from his soul through his voice. When I hear the voice of Caruso in such a beautiful piece such as this, I feel that I can hear God. Such was the greatness of this wonderful man.

@lewashcliffe You're a screaming empathetic genious, Lewis! In few words you describe what several people have written books in an attempt to define.

@lewashcliffe As a confirmation of the validity of your comment Caruso was often asked what he thought about his performance and he would reply "I didn't hear it."

@lewashcliffe I have to modify the "I didn't hear it" a bit. I was paraphrasing him, don't recall his exact words, but the essence was, what I said: he didn't hear or paid any attention to himself while singing. In his performance he WAS what he sang.
