I watch Yankee games, and Michael Kay, Ken Singleton, and either Leiter, Cone, or O'Neill. While I have nothing against them, except for Kay, I would give anything to hear Bobby Murcer and Phil Rizzuto call Yankee games again.

I must be old. I remember Rizzuto with Frank Messer and Jerry Coleman and Bill White came later and Bobby Murcer was the Yankees star player and not an announcer. Tell me if I'm wrong because I was very young at the time, but I remember Whitey Ford doing some games on TV right after he retired. I was only 5 or 6 years old, and maybe he only did a few, but it's something I remember if I didn't imagine it.

Carlinrulez666 - God bless you. I am of a certain baby boomer age now. Learned more about baseball from Phil over the years and the history of the Yankees than anyone. Met him once. A gentleman. "White" Katt, Murcer, Kubek (he had the good taste to leave) were wonderful.

I'm a little late finding this tribute but it's great. Thanks for doing it. I grew up with the Scooter doing games and loved him from the first time I heard him. His escapades with "White" were of legend. Ted Williams said that if the Red Sox had him as their SS, they'd have won all those pennents. Great on and off the field. Never saw the photo of Derek with the 10 on his arm- fabulous. Again, thanks for putting this together. The most lovable of all players and broadcasters.

Lifetime Red Sox fan here. i LOVED Scooter, would watch PIX games all the time in the 80's just to here him and White, loved it when Billy would drop by...Loved him! He made me smile and laugh and made watching a game more than just watching a game. Loved it when the topic was food....

Rizzutto was the perfect sports announcer. He was THE PIONEER. ALL of "sports radio" and "sports tv" industries owes its debts to the Scooter. He started the whole entertainment angle to broadcasting. Noone could come anywhere CLOSE to him.
