  • You realize that this is the man who basically invented vocal percussion at it pertains to A Cappella music. Of course he's good.

  • the first beatboxer that I've heard actually sound like a real drum set

  • Ha! I finally get to say "I knew him when" about someone! I think Wes was one of the first to really create a range of sounds with a vocal drumming technique that encompassed more than the basic ts-ts-ts hoo-ahh beatboxing of the eighties rappers which was limited to like 2 sounds and still sounded like a person rather than a drum. Wes has a solo cd out now - wescarroll.bandcamp. com

  • @RisenBeatbox I would say that the guys you mentioned started beatboxing. However, Wes Carrol started Vocal Percussion.

  • @dsmith215 ... really? this guy? beatboxing started with Doug E fresh, Biz Markie and Darren Robinson from the Fat Boys. it doesnt matter what style, beatbox started with them, not this guy.

  • Actually, I'd like to propose that it was the ORIGINAL vocal percussionist for the House Jacks back in the early 90's who was really the pioneer. Personally, I credit Andrew Chaikin as still being one of the innovators and still one of the best.

  • First, I find it rather intriguing that your observations were predominantly concentrated on my errors in grammar.

And furthermore, I am merely a fan of these gentlemen and what they do. I do not claim to know every aspect of this subject, so I do appreciate your obvious expertise.

  • First, you really ought to learn how to format words correctly. Also, you're misusing that semicolon. And furthermore, he was the first 'to' use guitar pickups on his throat, not the first 'two' do so. And lastly, 'bass-grunts' are called 'kicks,' in reference to the drum they are meant to imitate, the 'kick drum.'

  • Yep! He and Jeff Thacher are both consider pioneers; though Jeff's sounds lean toward more of an 'organic' sound, and he was the first two use guitar pick-ups on his throat to pick up bass-grunts in his throat. Wes' cymbal sounds are far more realistic than Jeff's, though.
