After much shopping I chose a stock Asus G1S over a beefed up low-end Alienware, and saved myself about 1500 bucks. This is Prey running on max settings, and 1280x1000 Resolution. The G1S comes with a built-in Nvidia 8600, 256 MB, HDMI output, and Dolby HD 7.1 Audio. 2 GB RAM. No problems with the laptop yet, And I couldn't be happier. Runs as smoothly as some high-end desktops.

  • Hey zsoahlaeiebm,

There are flashing green lights on the side that turn on every time Direct X is running... I turn them off when I play at night because they can be bothersome. I can normally run Prey or FEAR for about 90 minutes on max settings before the fan starts to speed up. It gets slightly warm, but nothing unexpected. I don't know why anybody would say this is not for gaming, because you would have to pay 4-5 grand for the same specs on an alienware. :)

  • hey i want and need a gaming laptop new or used for under $850. (NOT ALIENWARE) a laptop good for any game. A laptop with 4gigs of ram a Intel core 2 duo processor at high rpms....PLEASE HELP!

  • its not hard to download a GPU overclocker and overclock your video card from a GS to a GT. I have a Asus G50vt-X1, 15.4" Screen, 2.26 Ghz Intel Duo Core Processor, Nvidia 9800M GS (Overclocked to 9800 GTS) 320 gig HD @ 7200rpm and am running up to 16000 marks on 3D Mark06.

  • Not really, you can get much better laptops now for the same price since the G1S is pretty old.

Also, 9800M GS is..the lowest end in the 9800M series, you should've gotten the one with GT ;D
