A test of recording various games through Kega Fusion's new built-in AVI logging feature. Unfortunately it doesn't work with longer videos. Eventually they get to the point where there aren't enough keyframes for playback or editing.

Games: Langrisser 2, Ranger-X, and Dark Wizard
I was going to demo Phantasy Star 4 but the lack of key frames killed that idea real quick.

  • ok i will try

  • Bah, forgot to add: When re-encoding if you want to edit afterwards you need to check the Force Keyframes box and input a number. The number means that at that frame interval a new keyframe will be inserted.

  • I use the x264 encoder with Virtual Dub to re-encode all of my Kega videos. The only problem is if the video is longer then 10 minutes you'll need to re-encode first then split it due to keyframe placement. (Once it's encoded direct stream copy is extremely expediant.)

  • it's ok i fixed it i downloaded it again but youtube doesn't want to let me upload the vids after i record them, if i try to convert them it fucks up teh vid if i try Movie Maker it gives me an error

  • Without more information on your error I cannot be of any help.

  • ummm i clicked on install but it sez that is missing one file

  • The recording limit is tied to the fact that keyframes are set based on game CPU action. The lack of keyframes can make seeking extremely slow in VDub or even cause it to crash as it must load all the frames from the prior keyframe to the displayed frame. For example in a test case using Phantasy Star 4 I couldn't record anything useable with the final boss because of absolutely no keyframes between the start and end.

  • I didn't download the latest version. I went back and download it, and everything's good. btw, what's the recording limit (if any)

  • Try looking on the message board over at eidolon's inn. They can provide much better technical support then I can.

  • There was none
