  • What F1 fans (veterans fans) were fortunate enough to be presented - was Senna and Prost as team-mates - it was the equivalent of Mohammed Ali V Tyson - the 2 all time greats head to head! [I rate Schumacher somewhere analogous to Larry Holmes]

  • sterling moss said in the 1988 fia review that senna vs prost was one of the best things he saw in f1, because it was the 2 top drivers in the top car fighting fair and square for the title, for sure it was the best battle between teammates that anyone could ever saw or see

Oh I agree Senna was faster than Prost. I also believe Senna deserved all 4 titles in 1988-1991. But, IF all points were counted like they are today then Prost would be champion both in 1988 and 1989. Some could argue that Prost took care of the car better than Senna, thus had fewer technical problems, that's the same argument Alonso fans usually have. I'd compare Alonso to Nelson Piquet though.

Btw, didn't Mansell pulverisize Piquet in 1987? 6 wins to 3. Yet Piquet was champ.

So by that rationale Kimi Raikkonen was the real champion in 2005? After all Alonso also inherited 3 wins from Raikkonen when he was leading. In 2 of them Raikkonen had to retire with mechanical failure, which lost him 20 points (and gave Alonso 4 extra for free). In one race one can say it was Kimi's fault for flatspotting a tire, but he still was leading going into the final lap of the race, when the tire blew.

Kimi 20pts+,Alonso 4pts-. Kimi is champion. Which would be fair.

How about Ali vs George Foreman? The rumble in the jungle in 1974? Let's not forget that Foreman is still considered one of the all time greats, and he still holds the record of being the oldest heavy weight world champion when he won it aged 45.

I rate Schumacher analogous to Rocky Marciano, a champion in an era which had little talent and no real challengers. No disrespect to Marciano but he beat an old Joe Louis and retired before the new batch of talents arrived.
