(Portland, ME - East Deerfield, MA mixed freight with mainly box cars, tank cars, covered hoppers, & gondolas)

I heard POED going on their lunch break, so I decided to head up to the North Chelmsford wye and catch whatever activity I could when they got off their lunch break.

Sure enough, POED got a Form D west from CPF-NC to CPF-307, and shortly after that I heard the rumbling of EMDs notched up. Around the curve of the wye came the MEC #376, a high nose GP40 in Guilford paint, MEC #604, one of the "pre-owned" SD40-2s in fresh Pan Am paint, and HLCX #6428, a loaner SD40-2 in red.

After they pulled up 75 cars, they shoved back onto the other track to switch, and the cars crashing together down the train sounded awesome. Enjoy!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Thanks Jim!

  • Nice Video, Do you know what the North Chelmsford Defect Detector says?

  • The engineer I talked to a couple days ago said the detector at MP 304 is broken and has been for awhile, but my guess would be something along the lines of

"Guilford Rail System, milepost 304.2, xx miles per hour, no defects, repeat, no defects, total axles xxx, length xxxx, temperature xx"

Similar to the one in Gardner.

  • @TNT314159 I heard a Pan Am detector for the first time while riding the Downeaster to Portland a couple weeks ago. It pretty much sounded like what you said only it said "ST detector" instead of Guilford Rail System

  • Some of the old ones still say ST from before Springfield Terminal railway was merged with Guilford

  • Nice one! They're actually running POED's again! Cool getting that MEC 376, always neat to see a high hood running in slot #1 on a road job. Too bad they all let up on the throttle while going over the road, they were sounding pretttttty good curving into the NC Wye.
