Da Vinci Screw Making Machine. As crank is turned blank is turned as a cutter advances. Reproduction of a working model based on a drawing. The original drawing would have produced a reverse threaded screw, so the model was modified.

  • That should work, but I've tried this and the Dremel isn't really able to cut wood screws bigger than 1/4". I have set up a similar mechanism using a table router and a lead screw from an old table vice, and that works well on dowels as big as one inch. If you send me an email address (anfederman@comcast.net) I can send you a word doc that shows how to do this.

  • The materials (wood dowels) are a little too flexible to support a cutter at the correct pressure - if the tools was mad with iron gears, I am sure it would work.

  • The threads could be cut by mounting a dremel motor to your machine. That would overcome the issue of pressure needed for cutting.

  • would also need pressure on the cutter to keep the right depth
