well actually in the UK HD is the top selling format for High Definition i only know one person who has Blue Ray and he evan said that he prefers HD He Said Blue Ray has 50 gbs but it dosnt need that much HD is cheaper and you get just as many features if not more and on top of that the quality is basicly the same as each other so i recommend HD
but who has more support from film stidios and big brand makes like sony,philips..etc.. The only reason why they are selling them off cheap is because they can't get rid of them. if u live in UK, then go into HMV and you will see what i mean.
Oh, and the fact you can pick up this player for £170 in the UK with 5 free HD-DVDs (and this will fall to sub-£150 by Christmas) means BluRay is dead in the water.
HD DVD will win because of one thing only: the name. Average consumers don't know what Blu Ray is, but they know what HD is and they know what DVD is, so they know what a HD DVD player is. It's that simple; even if HD-DVD was significantly worse than Blu Ray it would still win just because of the name. Blu Ray CAN'T win, no matter how much money Sony throw at it, because it has a stupid name. It will be the betamax of the 21st century.
Personally, I've got the PS3, and yeah, a lot of gamers would adopt the blu-ray format as it is built-in into PS3. But the majority of the consumers won't spend $499 on a blu-ray player (or a PS3, even IF you also can play on it) when a HD DVD-player cost around $299. And this christmas holiday, Venturer are gonna release their HD DVD-player for a groundbreaking $199. That's a cheap way to adopt HD-movies. So I think that HD DVD will provail in the end, simply becuase of its unbeatible price!
