  • Am I the only one that thinks it's just a little weird that the gauge on the dash takes 30 seconds to figure out there is no oil pressure?

  • @grasscutter88

stock gauge is not really a gauge at all there is only a 7 psi switch that tells the ecm there is oil pressure or there is no oil pressure then the ecm just guesses and puts the gauge needle wherever it wants and it takes forever cause it's made like that on purpose so if the engine looses pressure for a second it don't scare someone i guess it has to have no pressure for a little bit that's why I don't trust the stock guage at all and installed an aftermarket in the first place

  • that's alright I did enough custom installing on my truck i'll just change the oil from now on and it will still last forever

  • You did not by chance take the orifice plug out of the feed to the bypass filter?

  • @greeneman99710

ah no never took anything on the bypass unit apart

  • @gibill16 I know it has a pressure switch but I just think it's dumb that it shows everything is fine and dandy for 30 seconds when it's really not. If I lose oil pressure I want to know the second I have no oil pressure so I can shut it off instead of having to replace an engine because you get these people that don't know that flunctuating oil pressure on a diesel is pretty much normal and nothing to be concerned about just as long as it has the required pressure. So we get fake gauges.

  • Even if it is in gear and you're just idling down the road in the highest gear possible without touching the throttle.

  • Always make sure you completely fill any oil filter with new oil before installing it anyway just to minimize this kind of thing. I'd be the kind of guy to hold it upside down for 20 minutes to let it perculate through all of the media, especially in the slower bypass unit. And then of course you know a thin film of new oil on the gaskets of the filters. BTW, NEVER, EVER rev an engine without oil pressure. Same reason you should not touch the gas when the engine is cold untill running for 1 min.

  • One of two things probably happened. Either the bypass and full flow are on the wrong sides(not sure how the bar works), or the hoses are swapped between in and out accidently(I know there is a difference in the instructions). If one of the thiings were swapped, it would take that long to fill the system since you're pumping it backwards. Plus if that head is sequential instead of common, it would fill the bypass first which is really the same as a full flow except better filtration/slower flow.

  • Let me know if you want a set of photos for the way installed my bypass system. It's full proof.

  • @slybee1

yes I disconnected it and now run a fleetguard on the engine where it belongs

  • @gibill16

Did you ever get this corrected? I recently installed a Amsoil Bypass unit on my 06 Dodge Diesel but I went a different rout and did a custom install. It came out great. Let me know if you would like me to send you some pics.
