*****ANNOTATIONS NOT WORKING-PLEASE READ!!!****
I botched this up in the beginning, wasn't very clear. This might help.

Both medical advance directives and psychiatric advance directive have state by state rules and documents. They are all called advanced directives, the power of attorney is legal and a living will only a list of wishes regarding health care. Sometimes they are combined into one document. It has been my experience that some documents need to be notarized. Your medical/health care directives and power of attorney are different than a psychiatric advance directive (listing both an agent to make decisions for you and your wishes regarding psychiatric treatment). If your state does not have a psychiatric advance directive you can use the health care directives to appoint a power of attorney - an agent to make decisions for you if you are unable to make them for yourself. Just make sure that agent is clear on what your wishes are ahead of time.

  • I lost my posting... here is my second try.

I MUST ask my psychiatrist up here in Canada. Thanks for this information.

  • Ooops. I forget that some viewers may not be in the states. I'd be interested to know what you find out about Canada.

  • I had started to fill out a Psychiatric Advance Directive for myself after my horrendous experiences with one facility, but I didn't finish it because I still have to research where I would want to be taken if I do require out-patient care. Onto your next video...
